BTA predicts 3% increase in arrivals

The British Tourist Authority in London released 1999 arrivals estimates, predicting that the U.K. will receive 26 million visitors this year, a 3% hike over 1998.

The BTA said 5.3 million visitors will arrive from North and South America, an increase of 4% compared to last year. It said the Asia market was making a recovery, with arrivals returning to 1997 levels. Tourism from Asia to the U.K. dropped by 17.5% in 1998, to 1.1 million.
