NEW YORK -- The Barbados Tourist Authority will extend its Best of
Barbados incentive program into the peak winter season, according
to Bill Silvermintz, vice president of marketing for the Americas.
He said the authority made the decision to offset the reluctance
of North Americans to travel in light of continued weakness in the
U.S. and Canadian economies and the possible war with Iraq.
The off-season version of the program expires Dec. 14.
The peak season program, available through wholesalers, features
a $200 air fare credit per person from the U.S. (or $300 Canadian),
coupled with value-added deals from 20 hotels, car rental concerns,
attractions, sightseeing companies and restaurants.
The air discount can be applied on top of "fare sales to the
Caribbean" offered by various carriers, Silvermintz said, bringing
the cost down even further. Bookings must be made between Nov. 24
and Dec. 15 for travel between Jan. 3 and Feb. 15 to qualify for
