Bass and Dorint hotels form joint venture

ATLANTA -- Bass Hotels & Resorts, based here, formed a joint venture with Germany's Dorint Hotels & Resorts to develop and manage select Inter-Continental and Dorint properties in major German cities.

"The parties will be equal partners in the joint venture, which will pair an Inter-Continental with a Dorint hotel in various cities," according to a Bass spokesman.

"This will allow both brands to retain their individual identities while sharing management staff and expertise."

The first pair of hotels to be operated by the joint venture includes the Inter-Continental Berlin and the Dorint Schweizerhof Berlin, which opened last summer on a site across the street from the Inter-Continental.

"From this summer, the two hotels will be operated as one unit," the spokesman said, "but still under their respective brand names and their own standards.

"Sales, reservations systems and marketing will remain separate, but operational synergies will be derived from combining administration, yield management, accounting, purchasing and maintenance resources."

The next project will be in Cologne, where the existing Stadthaus will be rebuilt and opened as an Inter-Continental next year, to be paired with the nearby Dorint Kongress Hotel, the company said.
