Baton Rouge airport gets new terminal

BATON ROUGE, La. -- A new and expanded terminal opened at Baton Rouge Metropolitan Airport recently.

The $25 million, 80,000-square-foot terminal A includes a concourse with a ticket area for five airlines; four boarding gates, and a food court.

A new second-floor walkway connects the terminal to the airport's parking garage.

The terminal, which replaces a smaller facility, is the first phase of a $100 million construction project.

In phase two, terminal B is being rebuilt and expanded with new gates and baggage area.

The two terminals are linked by a central atrium, which will eventually include a business center and children's play area.

Work also is under way on a new terminal access road.

The airport, eight miles from downtown, has had an increase in air service.

In December, US Airways Express started three daily nonstop jet flights from Charlotte, N.C.

Also last year, American Eagle started twice-daily nonstop jet service from Chicago, and Continental Express and American Eagle upgraded flights from turboprops to jets.
