Bike festival set for Negril

NEGRIL, Jamaica -- The island's first single-track racing festival, dubbed the Negril Fat Tire Festival, is scheduled for Feb. 9 through 13.

Single-track mountain bike racing involves intense competition because trails are wide enough for only one cyclist. The event will include a street party with Jamaican dance hall, ska and reggae music; a scavenger hunt, and a "cave rave," in which bikers of all levels pedal along the Negril coast by moonlight to a cave filled with music and more than 1,000 candles.

The highlight of the festival, hosted by the Jamaica Mountain Bike Association, will be the cross-country Jamaican National Championship Series Race.
