Biltmore to break ground in April

ASHEVILLE, N.C. -- The Biltmore Co., which operates the Biltmore Estate here, is scheduled to break ground on a $31 million, 222-room deluxe hotel in April.

The Inn on Biltmore Estate, a 165,000-square-foot facility, is scheduled to open in summer 2000. The property will feature 7,500 square feet of meeting space, including a ballroom, banquet halls and boardrooms.

Included in the plans are a 150-seat restaurant, a library, a lobby bar, an exterior swimming pool with a cabana bar, a health club and a children's activity area.

Nightly rack rates are expected to be about $150 per room, depending upon the season. Meetings and group reservations are being accepted now at (828) 274-6230. Individual reservations will be accepted in the summer.

In other news at Biltmore Estate, the Conservatory is aiming to reopen following a $2 million, two-year renovation. The Conservatory is scheduled to reopen to the public on April 2 in time for the estate's Festival of Flowers.
