Blue Man Group slated for Luxor in March

LAS VEGAS -- Circus Circus Enterprises Inc. contracted with theatrical producer Blue Man Group to debut at Luxor in March of next year. The opening will be the first full-scale Blue Man production mounted west of the Mississippi.

"Their arrival at Luxor will be a huge step forward for entertainment in Las Vegas," said Glenn Schaeffer, president and chief executive officer of Circus Circus Enterprises.

The Blue Man Group's off-beat humor, tribal music and striking visual effects, performed by three nonspeaking, blue-headed men, has led to various honors, including an Obie Award. The group was the forerunner for nonconventional productions such as "Tap Dogs."

"The success of the musical 'Chicago' at Mandalay Bay proved Las Vegas is ready for legitimate theater, and now Blue Man Group will prove Las Vegas is ready for illegitimate theater," joked Chris Wink, one of BMG's creators.

The Mandalay Bay Theatre setting will allow more space for musicians and larger instruments. New visual effects are also expected.

Blue Man Group recently celebrated its 3,500th performance in New York, and has sold out more than 2,000 performances in Boston and Chicago.
