Bohemian rhapsody: Czech Republic shows its musical side

PRAGUE, Czech Republic -- The renowned Prague Spring International Music Festival, set to run May 12 through June 3, kicks off a packed year of music events in the Czech Republic this year.

The Bohemian capital city also plays host to the Moravian Autumn Festival from Sept. 25 through Oct. 10, the Prague Autumn starting in mid-September, and the International Jazz Festival, Oct. 23 to 27.

An open-air opera festival celebrating composer Bedrich Smetana takes over a Renaissance castle in Litomysl from June 20 to 30, and the picturesque town of Karlovy Vary holds its own International Music Festival Aug. 2 to 28.

Meanwhile, wannabe highlanders and the kilt set might be interested in the 15th biannual International Bagpipe Festival, set for the town of Strakonice this August.
