BRANSON, Mo. -- This city's first upscale, conference-oriented
hotel, the 301-room Chateau on the Lake, and its adjoining,
40,000-square-foot Branson Convention Center will open in late
April and not on March 1, as originally announced last year.
The hotel will not be accepting conventions until June to assure
that all facilities and services will be available, according to
Cheryl McGee, marketing manager for John Q. Hammons Hotels of
Springfield, Mo., owner and operator of the property. No chain
affiliations are planned, she said.
"Branson has an upscale hotel now" is the message from the sales
force, she said, and that team expects to lure large and
medium-size conferences and corporate retreats, many of which
bypass Branson because a large, full-service meetings hotel was
Chateau on the Lake's conference center will have 18 meeting
rooms, three boardrooms and 15 small meeting rooms.
The center will be able to handle up to 4,600 for a reception,
2,690 for a banquet, 1,900 for a classroom presentation and 3,590
for a theatrical event.
Rack rates on opening day will be $159 a night, single; $179,
Although conferences will be a mainstay, families also will be
sought, McGee said. There will be a year-around supervised
activities program for younger and older children on the hotel's
lower level as well as field trips to Silver Dollar City.
Honeymoon and other packages also are planned.
Teina Hammons, sales manager for tour and travel, most recently
served with the Showboat Branson Belle operation.
The hotel is outside of town and overlooks Table Rock Lake and
is near the intersection of Routes 165 and 265.
