Bulk of tourists from the U.S.

ROAD TOWN, British Virgin Islands -- U.S. visitors to the British Virgin Islands account for 250,000 out of a total of 400,000 each year, according to Tammy Peters, vice president and travel marketing manager for the tourist board.

"More than 40% of U.S. visitors are repeat guests or become repeat guests once they sample the destination," Peters said.

Business to the BVI this year is very strong, according to reports gleaned from focus group discussions with travel agents.

Peters said agents report steady bookings, especially for the shoulder and summer seasons.

"This trend shows every sign of continuing through November and into the high season," she said.

Representatives from the BVI's mainland offices in Atlanta, Los Angeles and New York work closely with agents at trade shows, conventions and promotional road shows in key U.S. markets.
