CVBs Report Increases

MIAMI -- The Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau reported a 1.5% increase in overnight visitors during the first two months of the year, with the number reaching over 1.8 million persons.

The European market, with almost 300,000 visitors for the period, registered a 4.5% increase.

The Latin American market registered a 3.2% increase, and the Caribbean 6.4%.

However, the domestic market, where El Nino caused unusually mild weather in the Northeast, registered only a slight increase of less than 1%.

Canada, which also experienced relatively mild weather, showed a 3.7% decline.

By contrast, Midwest arrivals remained steady with last year.

Also, arrivals from the South grew by 1.7%.
