Candlewood opens Calif. property

WICHITA, Kan. -- Candlewood Hotel Co. here, owner of the Candlewood Suites brand, opened a Candlewood Suites hotel in California's Orange County, bringing the chain's Orange County portfolio to four.

The Candlewood Suites-Orange County Airport is located less than two miles from John Wayne/Orange County Airport. The hotel is close to offices of Ricoh, ConAgra and Ingram Micro.

Furthermore, Disneyland is less than 10 miles away and Knott's Berry Farm is 15 miles away.

Candlewood now has eight hotels in California, including properties in San Francisco, Silicon Valley and Sacramento.

The newest Orange County hotel has 122 suites, 98 of which are studios and the others are one-bedroom suites. As in other Candlewood hotels, all suites have a kitchen, 25-inch television, oversize desk and two phone lines with data ports.

Other amenities include free local calls, laundry and video and CD checkouts.

Candlewood also announced hotel activities in Colorado and Arizona.

Construction recently began on a Candlewood Suites hotel in Colorado Springs, Colo. The 122-suite hotel is owned and operated by a local franchisee and is set to open in September.

The hotel will be located two miles from Interstate 25. The suites include 80 studios, 24 one-bedroom suites and 18 studios with double beds.

The Arizona property, set to open in April, is a renovation of an older hotel. It will be the first franchised Cambridge Suites, another of Candlewood's hotel brands. Cambridge is targeted toward a pricier market than Candlewood Suites.

The 140-suite Cambridge Suites Tempe/Scottsdale will have 137 one-bedroom suites and three studios.
