Canopy Towers Ecolodge: It's a jungle out there

SOBERANIA NATIONAL PARK, Panama -- A night at nearby Canopy Towers Ecolodge & Nature Observatory is a must for families with older children.

Rooms in this former U.S. Air Force radar tower are at treetop level, no more than 40 feet from the birds. During the night, the air is filled with the sounds of howler monkeys. At dawn, when the rain forest awakens, blue cotingas and green shrike-vireos, birds normally glimpsed high in the tops of trees, perch right outside the Canopy Tower rooms.

Rates range from $130 to $200 in the dry season (December through April); from $100 to $145 during the green season (May through September); and from $110 to $165 during the migration season (October and November).

Prices are per person, double, and are inclusive, covering meals (simple, but ample), entrance to the park and two guided walks.

Agents earn 10% commission on bookings.

To book, call (011) 507 264-5720; fax: (800) 854-2597; e-mail: [email protected]; or visit www.canopytower.com.
