Carenage Bay Beach & Golf Club to close May 7

CANOUAN ISLAND, The Grenadines -- Carenage Bay Beach & Golf Club here will temporarily close its doors May 7. The 172-villa property, which opened in late 1999, parted company with Rosewood Hotels & Resorts on Feb. 20.

Bruce Hearn, managing director, said the resort "anticipates reopening in 2003 with facilities and services restored to five-star standards, including the completion of the redesigned 18-hole Jim Fazio golf course."

During the closure, Hearn said the staff will "regroup, perform necessary maintenance and reestablish an effective sales and marketing network."

Carenage's sister resort on Canouan, Tamarind Beach Hotel, is accepting reservations for Carenage clients after May 7. Agents' commissions are protected, Hearn said.

No specific date in 2003 has been set for Carenage's reopening.
