Caribbean connection: Airlines expand island service

ARLINGTON, Va. -- US Airways continues to look toward the Caribbean for expansion opportunities when it began code sharing Jan. 13 with Windward Island Airways.

The code-share flights, on which US Airways customers can earn miles, brings access to Anguilla, Saba, St. Eustatius, St. Kitts, Nevis and St. Barts.

Customers can connect to Winair via US Airways flights from its Charlotte, N.C., and Philadelphia hubs to St. Maarten.

Separately, US Airways is taking bookings on two new Caribbean routes it will begin serving March 15: Pittsburgh-Montego Bay, Jamaica, and Boston-Cancun, Mexico.

The carrier, meanwhile, began nonstop service between Philadelphia and Grenada on Dec. 21.

In addition, air service also is being added via Beaches Champagne Express and Continental Airlines.

The Beaches charter service will offer weekly Saturday flights between Chicago and Providenciales, Turks and Caicos, from March 1 to Dec. 15.

Continental, meanwhile, will offer direct service from Houston to Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands, with four flights a week beginning May 2.
