Caribbean properties, airline offer agent incentives

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- "Belize" it or not, a new airline serving Belize will pay 12% commission on its inaugural flight April 27 and 10% thereafter.

Bel Air International Airlines will offer Saturday roundtrip service between Fort Lauderdale and Belize City.

The flight will depart at 1 p.m. and arrive in Belize at 1:55 p.m. local time. (Belize is in the Central Time zone.) The return flight will depart Belize City at 6 p.m., arriving in Fort Lauderdale at 8:55 p.m.

Roundtrip fares are $399. Visit www.belairinternational.com for information.

On the accommodations front, two resorts are upping their commissions as a way of thanking the travel agent community.

Viva Fortuna in Freeport, Bahamas, is paying 15% commission (up from 12%) through Dec. 23.

Agents must book through the property's toll-free line at (800) 898-9968 or by e-mail to [email protected].

In addition, the drawing for Viva's Book & Win agent sweepstakes is April 15. Grand prize is a one-week trip to the resort for an agent and companion; the second prize is a five-night trip.

Kudos to Bolongo Bay Beach Club in St. Thomas for climbing on the travel agent bandwagon as well.

Its newest agent incentive program pays 10% commission plus Bolongo Bucks ranging from $25 to $100 per booking for all direct bookings made through the resort's toll-free reservations number at (800) 524-4746.

Agents can book clients on the resort's semi-inclusive continental plan or inclusive option.
