Carnival celebrates 30th birthday

MIAMI -- Thirty years ago last month, Carnival Cruise Lines' first ship, the Mardi Gras, set sail.

Now the company is throwing itself a yearlong birthday party called "Thirty Years of Fun," with on-board contests, promotions and commemorative items.

For agents, Carnival will hold an online contest to award 30 travel agents a free, two-night cruise aboard the Carnival Conquest.

The Conquest, which will be Carnival's largest ship, will enter service in November.

To enter, agents must visit through April 30 and answer 30 multiple-choice trivia questions about Carnival. The drawing will be held in May.

On board, Carnival guests can buy beer in commemorative cans as well as participate in interactive trivia contests, scavenger hunts and other events.

The line also will introduce a 30th anniversary song, recorded by Broadway star Andrea McArdle.
