ST. AUGUSTINE -- The Casa Monica Hotel, a Grand Theme Hotels property, reopened Dec. 10 in the historic district here after a two-year, $17 million renovation.

A view of the Casa Monica Hotel today in St. Augustine, Florida. It was built by Henry Flagler in 1888. The 137-room hotel is listed on the National Historic Register and will become a member of Historical Hotels of America.

Rates are from $129 per night, single or double, for a standard room with a king-size bed to $419 for a three-bedroom penthouse. Those rates expire Feb. 29. Thereafter, rates will range from $169 to $449 through May 31. All rates include admission to the fitness center.

Agents are offered a $65 nightly fam rate, single or double, in January, including a VIP pass to major attractions.

Although agent pay will be 10%, overrides will be established for volume business, according to Maura Brassil, director of sales and marketing.

In addition to rooms, agents will have three two-night and longer in-house packages to sell.

The following are highlights of the packages:

  • The two-night Getaway Weekend plan, priced from $180 per person, double, through Feb. 29, covers accommodations, a wine and cheese basket, flowers, passes to four attractions and a three-day St. Augustine Sightseeing Train pass.
  • The two-night Honeymoon package is priced from $525 per couple and features a room with a king-size bed; a basket with chocolates, wine, cheese and flowers; a Victorian era tour; a lighthouse visit; a Victory III Matanzas River cruise; Oldest House visit; a moonlit champagne carriage ride; an evening walking tour with emphasis on ghosts and romance, and a Raintree restaurant dessert.
  • The two-night Discover St. Augustine package from $345 per person, double, covers a room, a welcome basket, local homes tour, a tour focusing on Henry Flagler (who built the original Casa Monica), a French lunch, an evening ghost tour, the moonlit carriage ride and the restaurant dessert.
  • Meanwhile, the hotel's meeting space exceeds 5,000 square feet, Brassil said.

The largest meetings the Casa Monica can handle, she said, are 336 theater-style, 272 for banquets and 240 classroom-style. Extended room service is available, and the rooms are entered with key cards.

Also on site are a business center, a laundry and a 60-seat Spanish-style lounge.

Dining facilities on-site are the 120-seat 95 Cordoba restaurant (serving all meals) and the Marketplace, which has cafe tables and serves cappuccino, light entrees and sandwiches.

Kelly Smith, vice president of operations for Grand Theme Hotels, is acting general manager.
