Ceiba del Mar caters to trade

PUERTO MORELOS -- In a push to promote itself to the trade and reach out to a wide cross section of visitors, the newly opened Ceiba del Mar Hotel and Spa here launched a travel agent rate and several niche travel packages.

The resort, which opened on May 1, bills itself as the "first boutique hotel of its kind" in the Riviera Maya because of its relatively small room count.

It has 126 rooms (six are suites) within eight low-rise, thatch-roof buildings. Amenities include a concierge and rooftop terraces with a Jacuzzi and bar.

For agents, the resort is promoting a $25 daily per person rate that includes breakfast and dinner. A 12% hotel tax is included.

The promotion is valid for stays of up to three nights through Sept. 30.

For visitors, the packages include options for scuba divers, golfers, honeymooners and clients who want to tie the knot at the resort.

For scuba divers, Ceiba del Mar is offering four- and seven-night packages.

The packages include diving equipment, one two-tank dive excursion daily, breakfast and dinner daily, airport transfers, taxes and hotel staff tips.

Four-night packages start at $508 per person, double, while seven-night packages start at $1,330.

For duffers, the resort is offering four- and seven-night golf packages that include greens fees at nearby Playacar Golf Course, one round of golf daily with a four-night stay, two rounds daily with a seven-night stay, use of a golf cart, food and beverages in the golf clubhouse, taxes and tips.

Playacar Golf Course is located 20 minutes by car from the resort, and transportation is included.

Four-night golf packages start at $575 per person, double, while seven-night packages start at $1,465.

For honeymooners or other couples, the resort offers four- and seven-night packages that include daily breakfast and dinner, an upgrade to a suite, an in-room bottle of wine, a dinner for two as well as roundtrip airport transfers, taxes and tips.

Four-night packages start at $999 per couple, while seven-night plans start at $2,510.

Should the romance package lead to the altar, the resort is marketing a wedding package that takes care of all details -- assistance of a personal wedding planner, judge's fee, documents-preparation fee, wedding photographer, bridal bouquet and groom's boutonniere and the wedding cake.

It also includes an upgrade to a suite, a cocktail party for 10 with domestic drinks and a bottle of champagne for the bride and groom.

The wedding package costs $990.

Decor and furnishings at the Ceiba del Mar reflect Mexican designs.

Rooms are equipped with dual-line phones with data ports, minibars, CD players and "butler boxes," which enable guests to receive room service deliveries without having to let an attendant inside the room.

Facilities include two outdoor swimming pools, an oceanfront whirlpool, a tennis court and a jogging trail.

There are two restaurants that serve Mediterranean and Mexican specialties as well as a beachside bar and grill for light meals.

The rates range from $270 a night, double, for a standard room, to $605 for a suite.
