Chicago mayor proposes O'Hare expansion

CHICAGO -- Mayor Richard Daley proposed a $1 billion expansion of Chicago's O'Hare Airport.

Under the plan, O'Hare would get two new terminals, with gates big enough to handle the largest of commercial aircraft.

The project also would add federal inspection areas so that international flights could arrive at a variety of terminals, not just at the one existing international terminal.

The expansion "could represent an investment of $1 billion or more and could create more than 20 new, wider gates to accommodate the airlines' newer, larger and quieter aircraft," Daley said.
