LOS ANGELES -- A major delegation of Chinese tourism officials is set to swing through North America to meet with travel agents through dinner seminars. The China National Tourism Mission to North America 1997 is sponsored by the China National Tourism Administration and John Swire & Sons, the parent company of Cathay Pacific Airways and regional carrier Dragon Air.

During the dinner seminars, which are coordinated through local Pacific Asia Travel Association chapters, delegation members will provide the latest information on products for 1998 tours to China. The sessions will include a minitrade show and a presentation by Yang Wenzhen, director of the marketing department for the CNTA. The delegation will include representatives of major Chinese tourism bureaus, tour operators, hotels and Air China.

Representatives of Chong Qing, China, the gateway city for Yangtze River cruises, also will be on hand. Chong Qing recently joined Beijing, Shanghai and Tianjin to become the fourth municipality in the country. Municipalities are large, centrally governed urban areas that have equal status with Chinese provinces.

Representatives of Cathay Pacific Airways will address the seminars in Vancouver, British Columbia, and San Jose, Calif.
