Clipper to host Antarctic M.D.

ST. LOUIS -- Clipper Cruise Line will host Dr. Jerri Nielsen, the doctor who self-diagnosed and self-treated breast cancer when she was stationed in Antarctica, on two voyages to the continent this winter.

Nielsen will sail on the Clipper Adventurer on the ship's Dec. 13 and Dec. 23 17-day voyages to Argentina, Chile, the Falkland Islands and the Antarctic Peninsula.

Nielsen was serving as the only physician at a U.S. National Science Foundation base near the South Pole in 1999 when she discovered the malignant breast tumor.

Rates for the two departures begin at $7,670.
