Club Med gives Cancun village new look

NEW YORK--Club Med is kicking off the winter season with upgrades at its villages in Mexico.

Club Med Cancun opened Sept. 4 with a complete redesign. Improvements include refurbished guest rooms, which now feature softer shades and include bathrooms, televisions and telephones. The project included work on the main dining room as well as improvements to the reception area. The property's fitness center was enlarged and updated.

At other properties:

  • Club Med Huatulco will join the lineup of family villages with the addition of a free, year-round Mini Club program for kids ages 4 to 11. The Mini Club will debut Oct. 31.
  • At Club Med Ixtapa, the Kid's Free week will continue through Dec. 12. The promotion enables one child age 5 and under to stay, play and eat free when accompanied by a paying adult.
  • At all Club Med Mexico properties, the firm is offering a rate reduction of as much as 50% for the second week. The promotion applies to 14-night packages with departures through Dec. 12 and from April 10 to 24.
  • Club Med's Forever Young program provides reduced rates for clients ages 55 and older. The reductions are $100 per person on stays of seven nights or longer through April 24, excluding Christmas and New Year's weeks.
