Contiki unveils safaris, tours

ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Contiki Holidays unveiled its new African tour and safari itineraries geared to young adults.

The travel company offers 10 itineraries to South Africa, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Namibia, Kenya, Tanzania and Zanzibar, Zambia and Uganda.

All prices quoted are per person, land only. Entrance fees to all national parks and campgrounds are included.

The South African 15-day Rainbow Nation tour travels between Johannesburg and Cape Town and features tracking in the Motswari Game Reserve, Kruger National Park and Mlilwane Game Reserve.

Accommodations range from hotels and lodges to huts, caboose sleepers and the home of a village family. Prices start at $1,699.

Minitours of South Africa are available starting from $569.

The 13-day Zambezi Discovery Zimbabwe tour was featured on the MTV show, "The Real World." This tour features a three-day canoe safari as well as two days on a houseboat on Lake Kariba.

Travelers will visit Harare, the Great Zimbabwe Ruins, Bulawayo, Hwange National Park and Victoria Falls. Prices start at $1,489.

Wildlife reserves in Namibia and the wilderness of Botswana are the featured destinations of Contiki's 15-day Desert and Delta Tour.

The safari begins at the Contiki Adventure Village and ends in Windhoek. A reverse itinerary is available. Prices start at $1,339.

In East Africa, Contiki offers and eight- or 14-day Serengeti and Spice tour featuring two days in the Serengeti Plain.

The trip begins in Nairobi, Kenya, and takes in Tarangire National Park, Ngorongoro Crater, Serengeti National Park and a game drive in Mto-Wa-Mbu.

On the eighth day, travelers can return to Nairobi, join an eight-day Mount Kilimanjaro tour or continue to Zanzibar.

The 14-day itinerary starts at $2,125; the eight-day tour is priced from $1,306.

The new Monkey Business tour leads vacationers through the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park to search for gorillas.

The eight-day tour begins in Nairobi and heads to the Kibale Forest in Uganda, Queen Elizabeth National Park, Lake Bunyoni and Kampala. Prices start at $1,929 per person.

Athletic travelers can test their endurance with a climb to the world's highest freestanding mountain on the eight-day Mount Kilimanjaro Tour. Prices start at $999 per person.
