Continental launches service this winter

HOUSTON -- Continental Airlines bumped up its air service to destinations in Latin America.

The carrier said it would reinstitute daily service between Newark and Caracas, Venezuela, beginning Dec. 12.

Continental previously offered daily service on the route but reduced the flight schedule to once a week due to decreased demand after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. Currently, Continental flies from Houston to Caracas.

On the flights, Continental will operate Boeing 737-700 aircraft.

Meanwhile, Continental also launched new, direct service between Newark and Guatemala City and between Newark and Belize City, Belize, with continuing service to San Pedro Sula, Honduras. Service on those routes is set to begin Dec. 14. Government approval is pending for the start to the Belize service.

Continental will operate a 737-800 Boeing aircraft on the Saturday-only Belize City flight.
