LAS VEGAS -- The Aladdin Resort and Casino is being designed for
the convenience of convention users, according to George Helmstead,
vice president of convention sales.
"The convention floor will be right above the casino. Rooms will
be on the sixth floor and guests can go directly from their rooms
to the convention area," he said.
In addition, because of two separate guest elevator banks, all
guest rooms will be within seven doors of an elevator. "I know the
convention people will like that. They appreciate the convenience
of less steps to walk," he said.
When it opens next spring, the Aladdin will have 100,000 square
feet of meeting space. That will include a 37,000-square-foot grand
ballroom, a theater that will hold up to 7,000 people, two junior
ballrooms, 18 separate breakout rooms, a dedicated reception and
registration center, and a 24-hour business center.
Helmstead said he thought 30% of the hotel's business would be
conventions. "It's a great filler market that supplements your
leisure travelers at certain periods of time when that's down," he
The 2,567-room Aladdin Resort & Casino is a $1.3 billion
development that will include a 100,000-square-foot main casino and
the London Club, a luxurious European-style gaming salon.
It will also have 21 restaurants -- more than any other property
on the Strip -- and more than 130 retail shops.
