Crowne Plaza Orlando offers introductory rates

ORLANDO -- The $50 million, 400-room Crowne Plaza Orlando-Universal opened with introductory rates starting from $85 per night, single or double.

Travel agents are offered a $59 nightly fam rate on stays through Sept. 30 in addition to 10% commission. For $99, a buffet breakfast will be provided, according to Joanna Patterson, director of sales.

"The concierge level is a good buy for clients," Patterson said. "The concierge rooms start at $105 per night during the introductory period, which ends Sept. 30."

The level consists of 60 units, including suites. Concierge-level guests are treated to a continental breakfast, evening snacks, use of a private lounge and nightly turndown service, she said.

The Crowne Plaza's two concierge floors also contain Presidential and Honeymoon suites. The one-bedroom Presidential Suite can be rented year-round for $450 per night and, with two bedrooms, for $600, Patterson said.

The Presidential Suite offers views of Walt Disney World's nightly fireworks. In addition to its one or two bedrooms, it features a parlor, living and dining rooms and a full kitchen.

The hotel also has 91 junior suites, three dining options and a conference center with more than 5,000 square feet of meetings and banquet space. Six conference rooms contain videoconferencing equipment and feature high-speed Internet access.

"The hotel's guest mix through 2003 is expected to average 60% leisure and 40% commercial and convention groups," Patterson said.

However, after completion of a 1 million-square-foot expansion to the Orange County Convention Center in 2003, "this ratio will be reversed, since more meeting business can be expected," she said.

The dining choices at the hotel include Arcanjo's Bistro, a casual, full-service restaurant; the Market Cafe, which provides a daily panini selection and Noble Roman's pizza; and Chat's Lounge, off the lobby and courtyard pool area, which offers cocktail service and light fare for lunch and dinner.

The Crowne Plaza provides a courtesy shuttle to and from Universal Orlando, SeaWorld and Wet 'N Wild from 7:35 a.m. to 9 p.m. Courtesy shuttles to Walt Disney World leave at 8:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.

Talk about late bookings ...

ORLANDO -- While most North American hotels are encountering late bookings as the result of an unstable U.S. economy and the effects of Sept. 11, the Crowne Plaza Orlando-Universal experienced an unusually busy late-minute rush of business for its opening, according to Joanne Patterson, director of sales.

"Reservations for 100 room nights were made on Aug. 5 for occupancy starting Aug. 6," she said. "All came from individual bookings, representing a mixture of travel agent, Internet and phone reservations," she said.
