CruiseOne/Cruises Inc. recently presented a donation valued at more than $6,000 to the Alaska Raptor Center, a not-for-profit organization in Sitka.
The Raptor Center provides medical treatment to as many as 200 bald eagles and other birds each year and is one of the area’s top tourist attractions.
In addition to a $3,000 donation collected from CruiseOne/Cruises Inc. employees and franchisees, Celebrity Cruises donated a seven-night cruise that will be auctioned during the Raptor Center’s annual fundraising gala in November, bringing the donation’s value to more than $6,000.
The Raptor Center said the donation would be used to rebuild the center’s mew, which is used for educational programs. The center said it expected to complete the mew this winter, although the group is in need of donations to cover the anticipated $50,000 in construction costs.
The Alaska Raptor Center’s seven-acre campus borders the Tongass National Forest and the Indian River in Sitka.
