Cruise West 'BEARs' agents in mind with incentive plan

SEATTLE -- Cruise West launched an incentive program for agencies that book nine or more clients during a given season to any of the line's destinations, including Alaska.

Dubbed the BEAR (bookings earn added rewards) program, the incentive includes a free cabin on a Cruise West sailing for the agency and shipboard credits for clients.

Under the program, agencies that book nine people on a Cruise West sailing in a particular season receive one free berth, whose value is based on the average cruise-only price of all nine sailings sold.

An agency can use the free cabin to reward an agent or pass the savings on to a future group booking.

Cruise West said the agency incentive is doled out at the end of the cruising season or once all nine booking deposits are received, whichever comes first.

In Alaska, Cruise West's cruise-only programs are the Sheltered Seas yacht tours, the Explorer's Route, the Island Seas, the Glacier Seas and the Secluded Waterways.

Although group discounts do not apply to this program, clients are rewarded with on-board credits that range from $25 to $150 per person, depending on destination and sailing dates.

According to Mary Novak-Beatty, Cruise West vice president of sales, marketing and reservations, the program was created to reward agencies that sell a significant amount of Cruise West business.

Novak-Beatty said the BEAR incentive is in addition to Cruise West's main group program, which features group discounts and one free berth for every 10 cabins booked on the same itinerary.
