Cruise West extends air incentives

SEATTLE -- Cruise West is extending by one month its offer of free or reduced air fare on peak-season departures to Alaska, for all but one cruise.

For most seven-day or longer Alaska summer cruises booked by March 15, the firm will provide free air fare from seven Western states or flat rates of either $199 per person from the Midwest or $249 per person from East Coast and Southeast gateways.

The free air promotion applied originally to bookings made by Feb. 15.

The free air fare offer applies to departures from major gateway cities in Arizona, California, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon and Washington.

Participating gateway cities for all regions are listed on Cruise West's Web site at www.cruisewest.com.

Depending on the departure city, clients could realize savings of up to $1,105 per person, the line said.

According to a spokeswoman with Cruise West, the cruise line's call volumes increased by about 25% since the promotion's introduction.

The extension on the offer applies to all seven-day or longer cruises with the exception of the popular Explorer's Route itinerary between Seattle and Juneau.

Another of the cruise line's most popular itineraries to which the free air promotion does apply is the eight-day Secluded Waterways, which cruises entirely in Alaskan waters, between Juneau (with an overnight stay) and Ketchikan.

The Secluded Waterways itinerary also features the ports of Haines, Sitka and Skagway and visits small communities inaccessible to larger vessels, such as the Tsimshian village of Metlakatla and Petersburg.

A full day is spent with a naturalist exploring Glacier Bay National Park.
