Cruises lines pitch to agents with host of options

MIAMI -- Royal Caribbean International launched a travel agent sweepstakes to promote its summer Europe products.

The sweepstakes, which runs through Feb. 28, offers agents the chance to win one of several European cruises, $200 MasterCard Web certificates or the grand prize of a European cruise-tour.

Agents must book three 2003 European Royal Caribbean cruises and one Royal Caribbean European cruise-tour within the promotion period.

Once the trips are booked, agents can register for the sweepstakes on the cruise line's travel agent Web site at www.cruisingpower.com.

Meanwhile, agents who make six bookings with Swan Hellenic by March 31 for cruises that depart by Dec. 31, 2003, are eligible to receive a complimentary cruise.

Four sailings are available as part of the basic offer: an eight-day cruise to Turkey and Greece; an eight-day trip to Greece, Croatia and Italy; a five-day cruise to the U.K., Belgium and the Netherlands; and a four-day voyage to France and the U.K.

Agents who book 10 cruises can either earn a free cruise or bring a companion free on one of the four cruises. Agents who make 16 bookings can earn free passage for two on any available cruise.

In addition, Delta Queen Steamboat Co. now offers an override commission program of up to 15% on 2003 departures.

A travel agency commission guarantee is built into its sales program.

To be eligible, single travel agency locations must sell a minimum of five cabins in the calendar year 2003 and agree to designate Delta Queen as a preferred supplier, committing to an annual promotional plan.
