Crystal touts 42% bookings increase

LOS ANGELES -- Luxury line Crystal Cruises said bookings over a six-week period between March 12 and April 16 increased 42% over the same period last year.

Crystal said the majority of the bookings were for the line's Alaska and Europe summer seasons, as well as close-in bookings for this spring's Asia programs.

"By far the biggest trend of 2002 is close-in bookings," a spokeswoman said. "Crystal Cruises' tactical initiatives have generated a strong response."

Crystal evaluates its booking patterns all the time, the spokeswoman added.

"We've been seeing this surge for awhile now, and once we hit the six-week mark, we thought it was significant enough to tout," she said.
