Cuba arrivals from U.S. rise to 127,000

HAVANA -- Visitors to Cuba last year totaled 1.7 million, up .03% or 555 individuals, above 2000 figures, according to the Ministry of Tourism.

Figures compiled by Cuba's National Statistics Office reveal that 127,000 U.S. visitors traveled on charter flights sanctioned by Cuba from Miami, Los Angeles and New York.

This was an increase of 44,000 over the previous year, although the number dipped dramatically after Sept. 11, as did hotel occupancies in Havana and Cuba's resort areas.
