Curacao announces jump in U.S. visitors

WILLEMSTAD, Curacao -- For the first three months of 2002, overnight visitors from the U.S. to Curacao reached 11,233, an increase of 7.3% compared with the same quarter in 2001, the Curacao Tourist Board reported.

The largest jump occurred in March, when arrivals from the U.S. were up by 20%. The U.S. continues to be the island's No. 2 market, accounting for 22% of all arrivals, with European travelers representing the largest source at 27.5%.

Contributing to the growth in U.S. travelers is new service by Air Jamaica and the presence of SuperClubs Breezes, according to James Hepple, executive director of the Curacao Tourist Board.
