Dan Panorama Jerusalem finishing a $5M enhancement

JERUSALEM -- A $5 million update of facilities and services is nearly complete at the newest Dan Hotels property in this city.

The Dan Panorama Jerusalem, located between the historic Old City and the busy downtown area of the new capital, joins the Dan Pearl, which specializes in families who want to be near the Old City, and the chain's flagship King David Hotel.

To bring the new property "up to the Dan standard," the rooms, entrance lobby and dining venues have been updated, said the hotel's general manager, Chen Michaeli, who also is vice president of development for the Dan Hotels Corp.

The Dan executive is optimistic about tourism to Israel in the coming years, especially here.

"The climate is much more positive. I see a very good year ahead, especially in Jerusalem," Michaeli said.

And, Michaeli said, "The Panorama brand fits in for groups and conventions. We have the right number of rooms in the right location."

The hotel has 291 rooms and suites, and the original hotel building, around which the larger hotel was constructed, was converted to house 18 villa-style units that can accommodate up to five people.

In the hotel itself, a lounge named Carmel that will offer views of the Old City is being added on the ninth floor. It will provide breakfasts and refreshments throughout the day for guests staying in the 40 concierge rooms on floors nine to 11.

Concierge guests also will have in-room modem and fax connections, a minibar and a safe and will be provided with speedy check-in and checkout services.

In addition, a health club will be added near the seventh-floor outdoor pool area.

Guests staying in deluxe rooms will be entitled to free entrance to the pool and garden area of the King David Hotel, located about two blocks away and a member of the Leading Hotels of the World.

There is a shopping and meeting-room level below the lobby.

Equally important will be improvements in the quality of service at the hotel, Michaeli said, and training and staff are being added.

The Dan Panorama Jerusalem is offering to provide FIT guests booked by travel agents a fruit basket and a welcome from the agent.

Also, groups will be able to check in for return flights at the hotel the night before departure.

The service will include checking in luggage, personal security checks, seat selection and free refreshments during the procedure.

Prices start at $91 per person, per night, and include breakfast; for stays of at least four nights, rates start at $78.
