David Allen, 59, Bermuda minister of tourism

HAMILTON, Bermuda -- David Allen, Bermuda minister of tourism, died Sept. 26 after a six-week battle with abdominal cancer. He was 59.

Allen, an active member of the Progressive Labour Party since 1967, was elected to the House of Assembly in 1989 and appointed minister of tourism in November 1998.

Premier Jennifer Smith, who was off the island at the time of his death, will appoint the next minister of tourism upon her return, a spokeswoman for the Bermuda Department of Tourism said.
