Delta, Continental set nonstop to Los Cabos from East Coast

LOS CABOS, Mexico -- Los Cabos. You can't get there from here now, not if here is the East Coast and you want to fly nonstop.

But that will change Nov. 1 when Delta introduces nonstop service from Atlanta to Los Cabos as part of an expansion into Latin America and the Caribbean.

Continental will launch nonstop service between Newark and Los Cabos on Dec. 16. The flight will operate every Saturday until at least April 28.

A ship sails past Los Arcos, a rock formation off the Los Cabos coast. Delta has not set an end date for its Los Cabos flights, but said it will review load factors by the end of April and decide if it will continue the route.

Continental already flies daily between Los Cabos and its Houston hub.

In addition to the new service, several carriers said they will resume seasonal flights in November or boost existing service.

American Airlines on Nov. 1 will resume, through April, the daily nonstop flight from Chicago to Los Cabos that it introduced last winter.

Alaska Airlines in November will add seats to its nonstop flights from San Francisco, Los Angeles and Seattle.

And America West said next year it will add six flights to its Arizona-Los Cabos service for a total of 23 weekly flights.

To promote the expanded air service, the Los Cabos Tourism Board launched a series of 90-minute agent sales seminars dubbed "Come to Know Los Cabos" in Atlanta and New York, as well as in feeder markets like Philadelphia, Detroit and Chicago.

The next seminar is scheduled for Sept. 22 at the Marriott at the Mall, Minneapolis.

Attending agents will get a destination update from airline, tour operator and resort representatives, and a sales guide and destination video.

For information about the remaining seminars, call (800) 926-0088, fax (800) 941-5101.
