Destination Tropics slates yoga journey

PHOENIX -- Destination Tropics, a tour operator here specializing in Thailand, announced the date for a yoga retreat program to the Southeast Asia nation.

The program, which will be led by Sherry Zumbrunnen, a registered nurse and certified yoga instructor, is scheduled for Feb. 16 to March 1.

The 13-night trip includes daily yoga classes along the shores of the Andaman Sea, meditation in Buddhist temples and sightseeing in Bangkok and Krabi.

In addition to practicing yoga, clients on Destination Tropics' program will participate in escorted elephant treks in the Thai jungle. Destination Tropics said Zumbrunnen's classes cater to all levels of yoga practitioners.

The yoga program costs $3,750 per person, double ($3,950 single), from Phoenix or Los Angeles. Commission is 10%.

The package covers all meals, four nights at the Royal Benja Hotel in Bangkok and escorted sightseeing trips in Bangkok, including visits to the Royal Grand Palace, the floating market and the ancient capital of Ayuthaya.

Also included is a seven-night stay at the Villa Tropicale in Krabi, the base for escorted elephant treks during jungle and temple explorations.

The program also covers roundtrip air fare between Phoenix/Los Angeles and Bangkok and Bangkok and Krabi, as well as airport transfers within Thailand.

In addition to the yoga retreat, Destination Tropics offers packages to Thailand that focus on the martial art of Tai Chi, Buddhist healing rituals, Thai massage training, Thai cooking classes, Thai boxing and fitness.
