Detroit CVB launches ad campaign

DETROIT -- The Detroit Metro Convention & Visitors Bureau launched a new ad campaign.

The $3 million effort, using the tag line "Reasons," plays on the area's longstanding tag line, "It's a Great Time in Detroit."

"We have found through market research that travelers want reasons to visit a place. Now, with this campaign, we are showing the reasons," said a spokeswoman for the bureau.

For the first time since 1996, the campaign will include 30-second metro Detroit TV commercials in the city's key tourism markets of Chicago, Cleveland and west Michigan. Newspapers and magazine ads also are part of the effort.

"Reasons" was unveiled during the second annual tourism forum titled Destination 2001, at Laurel Manor in Livonia.

The Detroit bureau was founded in 1896, according to a spokesman, as the world's first convention and visitors bureau. The bureau can be reached at (313) 202-1951
