Disney Magic to call in 2002

GEORGE TOWN -- The Cayman Islands will have a source of new visitors next spring when the 875-stateroom Disney Magic cruise ship starts alternate weekly cruise calls to the destination, beginning May 11, 2002.

Disney's new western Caribbean route, calling at Key West, Fla.; Grand Cayman; Cozumel, Mexico, and Castaway Cay, Disney's island in the Bahamas, will be an addition to its eastern route, which calls at St. Maarten, St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands and Castaway Cay.

Each of the seven-day cruises will depart from Port Canaveral, Fla., on Saturdays through December.

McKeeva Bush, minister of tourism, said the Cayman Islands' attractions and historical landmarks "will appeal to Disney passengers, especially families."

Ship facilities include 11 decks, three restaurants, lounges, a spa, kids' activities and Disney characters on board.
