LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- In response to agent requests, The Walt
Disney Travel Co., effective Aug. 17, will make several of its most
popular Walt Disney World packages available for booking over the
Disney agent Web site (www.travelagents.disney.com).
The booking engine also will be available as of Aug. 24 on one
of Disney's public Web sites (www.disneyworld.com).
A Walt Disney Attractions' travel-industry marketing spokeswoman
said the tour operator has been accepting direct phone bookings and
that the booking engine will give customers who prefer to book
direct another option. That booking engine will not be heavily
promoted, she said.
According to Randy Garfield, president of the tour operator, the
booking engine on the agent Web site "will help agents provide
instantaneous service for their clients." The new system requires
agents to supply the dates of travel, information about their
clients, their room selection, the package rate desired and billing
Disney supplies prices for specific packages along with a
confirmation number. Packages available are: Basic Plan, Resort
Magic Plan, Grand Plan and Honeymoon Escape. Internet bookings
appear instantly in the tour operator's reservations system.
Initially, agents will have the ability to review a previously
made Internet booking on line, but to make any changes they must
call the tour operator. In addition, the booking engine, at this
time, cannot accept requests for air space, car rental or transfer
The booking engine was designed with the latest in Internet
security, officials said. This feature follows Disney's inaugural,
reset for Aug. 13, of an Itinerary Planning enhancement to the
agent Web site.
Only agents who have established a relationship with The Walt
Disney Travel Co. have the ability to book over the Internet. To
register, agents should call (800) 327-2996.
