LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- Walt Disney World Resort Sunday opened Disney's Pop Century Resort here, expanding by 50% the number of Disney-owned and -operated value-category rooms to more than 8,500 in the 47-square mile Vacation Kingdom.

The rooms, set amidst 65-foot tall bowling pins and four-story Rubik's Cubes and Duncan Yo-Yos, start at $77 per night, depending on the season.

The 2,880-room property "showcases the impact that popular culture has had on our society, so it's fitting that we're opening the 1950s through the 1990s areas of this hotel," said Al Weiss, president of Walt Disney World Resort.
