Disney to construct 192 Vacation Club units

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- Walt Disney Parks and Resorts will expand its Disney Vacation Club concept of vacation ownership units to the Disney Institute campus at Walt Disney World Resort. Construction is expected to start this spring on 192 units.

A Walt Disney spokeswoman said programming at the Disney Institute, which offered courses in cooking, photography and animation to the general public, has been phased out.

The institute's programming now is focused on professional development, geared to meetings and convention groups, takes place at facilities at Disney's resorts.

The spokeswoman said there has not been a decision as to the future of the Disney Institute's buildings and whether they will be incorporated in the Vacation Club complex or demolished.

The institute's campus, where the Vacation Club units are to be built, is adjacent to the Downtown Disney resort area.
