Dominican Republic signs on as partner country for ITB Berlin

The prominence of the Dominican Republic as a destination for world tourism on a year-round basis is borne out by its signing on as the official partner country of the annual ITB Berlin trade show event, taking place from March 5 to 9, according to minister of tourism Felix Jimenez.

As the partner country of ITB Berlin 2008, the Dominican Republic will organize the opening ceremonies on March 4 and stage several events during the show in the Caribbean Hall area of the exhibition.

"The Dominican Republic is now firmly established in world tourism as a year-round destination for leisure travels and incentive tour operators," said Raimund Hosch, CEO of ITB.

"This has been borne out not only by the increasing number of visitors from Germany but also by the arrivals from the rest of the world, which are expected to exceed 4 million in 2007," Hosch remarked.

He said that growth prospects for the country "are very promising due to the Dominican Republic's stable political situation and its improving business and investment climate."
