BOSTON -- Donna Franca Tours here is promoting a new wine tour
of Umbria and Tuscany.
The seven-night itinerary is priced at $2,699, including
roundtrip air from New York on Alitalia; deluxe and first class
accommodations; daily breakfasts, and two dinners.
The tour spends two nights in Orvieto at La Badia Hotel, with
dinner at an abbey.
There will be wine tasting in Orvieto and sightseeing, followed
by a visit to Todi, a medieval hill town; a stop for tasting
truffle-scented olive oil on locally baked bread, and a stop at the
vineyards of De Ruta.
The tour then spends two nights at Tre Vaselle in Torgiano, with
excursions to Assisi, a wine museum and a winery.
Travelers will continue to the Etruscan town of Monte-pulciano,
to a nearby winery and then to San Gimi-gnano's Relais la
There will be tastings of chianti and vernaccia, a tour of the
ancient town of Montalcino and a day in Siena with a wine tasting
on the city's ramparts.
The tour is limited to 15 participants and departs monthly from
April through October.
Another new Donna Franca program is a cooking school vacation
for independent travelers.
There is a choice of the Cordon Bleu in Florence at $1,009,
double, including three lessons and lunches and five nights' first
class accommodation; seven nights at the Antico Casale di Scansano,
with three lessons by the hotel's owner and chef, priced at $1,026,
double, and the five-night Hotel Bramante program in Todi, with
five days of lessons with the hotel's owner-chef, for $874,
