Doubletree hotel upgrade in Fort Lauderdale nears completion

Gallery One Fort Lauderdale -- A Doubletree Guest Suites Hotel is in the final phase of a two-year, multimillion-dollar renovation aimed at transforming it into an upscale leisure and business property.

 

Situated on the Intracoastal Waterway, the 231-room property has all-suite accommodations with separate living rooms; kitchens with stainless steel appliances; dining areas; and 42-inch plasma TVs.

Bedrooms feature Doubletree's Sweet Dreams beds with down comforters. Bathrooms have walk-in showers with rainfall showerheads. The property has 8,000 square feet of meeting space.

Doubletree officials said a new restaurant concept will debut in late summer with new cocktail lounges and coffee and wine bars.

Body, soul in Palm Beach

The Chesterfield Hotel in Palm Beach is offering a one-night Sex, Body and Soul package for couples looking for a getaway.

The package is $445 per couple and is offered through Nov. 15. It includes a one-night stay in a deluxe king room, breakfast for two, one spa treatment per person at the Georgette Klinger Spa, a spa gift certificate and discount and a welcome gift.

Benchmark to manage Naples resort

Benchmark Hospitality International was tapped to manage the 193-room Naples Bay Resort, to open in September 2007.

The mixed-use resort will feature an 85-room hotel and 108 resort cottages plus 30 town homes and 65 condominiums.

The property will have 5,000 square feet of meetings and conference space serviced by Benchmark's Conference Concierge.

Recreational facilities will include a 97-slip marina, fitness center, tennis center and pool complex with a lazy river pool, lap pool, children's pool, sundeck and cabanas.

Guests will have access to private Keewaydin Island. A retail promenade next to the marina will feature high-end shops, entertainment venues and restaurants.

Wireless poolboy

The Four Seasons Hotel Miami rolled out technology that allows guests to place orders for food, beverages and services from the comfort of their poolside chaise.

The IntelliChaise Personal Ordering System features a wireless, handheld device with a touch screen.

Guests can request a device when they arrive at the pool or pick a chaise with one already installed.

The device transmits orders to the hotel's point-of-sale system, which delivers a printout of the orders to the kitchen, bar or other resort outlet.

Guests also can press a button on the unit to request a server.

Four Seasons said it is evaluating implementing the technology systemwide based on its success at the Miami property.
