Duty-free group touts shopping in India's airports

NEW DELHI, India -- Some of the best duty-free bargains are available at airports throughout India, according to the India Tourism Development Corp. (ITDC).

The ITDC, which oversees the duty-free trade, said it aims to provide customers with world-class merchandise and service.

According to ITDC, it operates about 30 duty-free shopping outlets across the country, with an ever-expanding range of merchandise.

New ITDC outlets were to debut with the opening of airport operations in Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Calicut, Hyderabad and Varanasi.

"As a convenience to international travelers, we recently opened our first downtown duty-free shop.

It is at the Ashok Hotel in New Delhi. This means passengers can shop leisurely and collect their purchases at the airport," an ITDC spokesperson said.
