ETC appoints new executive director

BRUSSELS, Belgium -- The European Travel Commission named Jaime-Axel Ruiz Baudrihaye, director of the Lisbon, Portugal, branch of the Tourist Office of Spain, as its new executive director.

Ruiz Baudrihaye succeeds Walter Leu of Switzerland, who served in the post since 1996.

According to the 31-nation ETC, closer relations with operations groups in the U.S., strengthened ties to the World Tourism Organization and European Union, and increases in both industry partner contributions and the added value the ETC provides members top Ruiz Baudrihaye's to-do list.

Einar Gustavsson, director for the Americas at the Icelandic Tourist Board in New York, will continue as ETC chairman in the U.S.
