Eden Roc to undergo $22M refit

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. -- The Eden Roc Resort & Spa will launch a $22 million renovation in May that is slated to be completed in phases by the summer of 2000. In addition, a new sales team is in place to help reposition the hotel for small, upscale meeting groups and leisure travelers.

roomshotThe Eden Roc was acquired last April by Denver-based Destination Hotels & Resorts and New York-based Blackacre Investments, the majority owner.

The renovations schedule will not affect peak-season services and will include remodeling of the hotel's 349 guest rooms and its public areas. A $1.2 million renovation of the pool area will include removal of the oceanside cabanas, providing an unobstructed view of the ocean from the hotel's lobby.

New staff members, reporting to Tim Nardi, general manager, are Randy Griffin, director of marketing; Wendy Traurig, director of group sales, and Leanne Thompson and Robert Sawyer, sales managers. Griffin was director of marketing for the Crowne Plaza Hotel Miami-Biscayne Bay and the Sheraton Design Centre, Fort Lauderdale. Traurig was with the Wyndham Hotel Miami-Biscayne Bay, where she handled small group sales.

Thompson was with the Davidson Hotel Co., where she was sales manager for the Radisson Deauville Resort, Miami Beach. Before that, she worked for two other hotels. Sawyer comes from the Peaks Resort & Spa in Telluride, Colo., where he was a sales manager.
