Electrical Parade back on Main St.

LAKE BUENA VISTA -- The Main Street Electrical Parade, a favorite at three Disney parks, returned recently to the Magic Kingdom for a long-term engagement.

Operated at 9 p.m. and 11 p.m., the parade will continue to run through the 15-month Walt Disney World Millennium Celebration and possibly beyond that.

Disney's Main Street Electrical Parade is back by popular demand. The celebration begins on Oct. 1 and ends Dec. 31, 2000.

The 20-minute parade's schedule is subject to change after Aug. 28.

The procession, which covers a route that is three-quarters of a mile long, involves 26 vehicles sporting 575,000 shimmering colored lights bearing lighted characters from Disney stories.

Parade segments include salutes to movies such as "Alice in Wonderland," "Cinderella," "Peter Pan," "Dumbo," "Snow White" and "Pete's Dragon."

The Blue Fairy from "Pinocchio" is the grand marshal and is decorated with more than 20,000 blue, amber and crystal lights.

"Dumbo" and the circus are recalled in thousands of lights, and butterflies and dragonflies dance and spin around Alice.

A cadre of Disney characters in costumes lined with lights joins the procession.

The characters follow the 122-foot-long, 80,000-light patriotic finale. Accompanying the parade will be music from an enhanced sound system.
